CIS219: Computer Programming 1

4 Credits

Introduces computer concepts and programming in a modern, high-level language with a focus on problem solving and systematic program development. Topics include problem analysis, algorithm design, top-down development, program testing, documentation, data types, input/output, sequence, selection, loops, functions, arrays, strings, files, and data structures. Additionally, students are introduced to basic algorithms such as sorting and searching. Prerequisite: CIS125.

CIS221: Computer Programming 2

4 Credits

A continuation of CIS219. Demonstrates advanced computing system concepts, problem solving and systematic program development. Topics include program development, program testing, documentation, functions, files, advanced data structures, and object-oriented concepts such as inheritance, polymorphism, exception handling, and event driven programming. Additional topics may include but are not limited to: database programming, networking, GUI development, recursion, lists, stacks, queues and trees. Prerequisite: CIS219.

Explains radio station operations. Introduces principles, theories and radio broadcasting procedures. Examines FCC rules and regulations. COM123: Broadcasting Practicum

Provides one college credit for working on the college radio station or participating in an internship program at a commercial radio station in Batavia, Rochester or Buffalo. Students may enroll four times for a maximum of four semesters hours of credit. Activity hours to be arranged. Prerequisite: COM102, COM102 or concurrent enrollment in COM102. Credit in this course will not satisfy the Fine Arts requirement in any degree program.
